靜電除塵是氣體除塵方法的一種。含塵氣體經(jīng)過高壓靜電場(chǎng)時(shí)被電分離，塵粒與負(fù)離子結(jié)合帶上負(fù)電后，趨向陽極表面放電而沉積。在冶金、化學(xué)等工業(yè)中用以凈化氣體或回收有用塵粒。利用靜電場(chǎng)使氣體電離從而使塵粒帶電吸附到電極上的收塵方法。在強(qiáng)電場(chǎng)中空氣分子被電離為正離子和電子，電子奔向正極過程中遇到塵粒，使塵粒帶負(fù)電吸附到正極被收集。當(dāng)然通過技術(shù)創(chuàng)新，也有采用負(fù)極板集塵的方式。以往常用于以煤為燃料的工廠、電站，收集煙氣中的煤灰和粉塵。冶金中用于收集錫、鋅、鉛、鋁等的氧化物，也有可以用于家居的除塵滅菌產(chǎn)品。

靜電除塵空氣凈化器利用高壓直流電場(chǎng)使空氣中的氣體分子電離，產(chǎn)生大量電子和離子，在電場(chǎng)力的作用下向兩極移動(dòng)，在移動(dòng)過程中碰到氣流中的粉塵顆粒和細(xì)菌使其荷電，荷電顆粒在電場(chǎng)力作用下向自身電荷相反的極板做運(yùn)動(dòng)，在電場(chǎng)作用下，空氣中的自由離子要向兩極移動(dòng)，電壓愈高、電場(chǎng)強(qiáng)度愈高，離子的運(yùn)動(dòng)速度愈快。由于離子的運(yùn)動(dòng)，極間形成了電流。開始時(shí)，空氣中的自由離子少，電流較少。電壓升高到一定數(shù)值后，放電極附近的離子獲得了較高的能量和速度，它們撞擊空氣中的中性原子時(shí)，中性原子會(huì)分解成正、負(fù)離子，這種現(xiàn)象稱為空氣電離。空氣電離后，由于連鎖反應(yīng)，在極間運(yùn)動(dòng)的離子數(shù)大大增加，表現(xiàn)為極間的電流（稱之為電暈電流）急劇增加，空氣成了導(dǎo)體，高強(qiáng)電壓捕獲附帶細(xì)菌顆粒，瞬間導(dǎo)穿由蛋白質(zhì)組成的細(xì)胞壁，達(dá)到殺滅細(xì)菌吸附除塵。
普通凈化機(jī)采用濾紙來過濾空氣中的灰塵，極易堵塞濾孔，灰塵越積越多,不僅沒有滅菌效果，而且容易造成二次污染。而靜電除塵技術(shù)有以下幾個(gè)優(yōu)點(diǎn)：
（1）除塵效率高；
（2）可以凈化較大氣量；
（3）能夠除去的粒子粒徑范圍較寬；
（4）可凈化溫度較高含塵煙氣；
（5）結(jié)構(gòu)簡(jiǎn)單，氣流速度低，壓力損失??；
（6）能量消耗比其他類型除塵器低；
（7）電除塵器可以實(shí)現(xiàn)微機(jī)控制，遠(yuǎn)距離操作。
